FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has filed charges of carrying a concealed weapon and resisting police but no assault count against a motorist after a shooting that left him and a Flint-area officer wounded.

Fifty-five-year-old Christopher A. Washington was arraigned Wednesday. He and the officer remain hospitalized.

Leyton says in a statement that the charges stem from an “incident that left both Washington and the officer hospitalized with gunshot wounds.”

Earlier, Flint Township police Lt. Jim Baldwin told The Flint Journal that a scuffle occurred during a traffic stop Friday night.

Baldwin says the man pulled a gun and shot the officer, who requested backup. The lieutenant says other officers arrived and police shot and wounded the motorist.

Leyton says state police continue investigating and more charges are possible.
