ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) - Rising costs threaten plans for a Yakima River Canyon Interpretive Center near Ellensburg.

The group planning the center, the Kittitas Environmental Education Network, says it must be redesigned to meet state requirements for building in a flood plain.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (https://bit.ly/15T07VG) the changes would push the project $130,000 over budget.

Supporters are seeking grants, donations and help from the state so that construction can start as planned in the spring. The center would give tourists tips on recreation and serve as a nature center for school groups.
