PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - A former Walsenburg police officer who helped her ex-husband hide heroin and cash from investigators has been sentenced to five years in prison.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports (https://bit.ly/1K7nPKA ) 32-year-old Gloria Suazo was sentenced in federal court in Denver on Friday. She apologized for embarrassing the Walsenburg Police Department and law enforcement in general.

Suazo acknowledged helping 33-year-old Jeromy Suazo hide the drugs and cash from police two days after he was jailed in Pueblo on drug charges. Jeromy Suazo was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

When Gloria Suazo pleaded guilty Oct. 29, the judge granted her release until sentencing. The next night, Pueblo police arrested her for allegedly selling crack cocaine in a trailer park.

She has not been convicted in the cocaine case, which is ongoing.
