GRAINFIELD, Kansas (AP) - Authorities say a 31-year-old man has been arrested after he ran through a high school during an attempt to elude Kansas Highway Patrol troopers.

Superintendent Gary Kraus says Wheatfield High School was put on lockdown Monday after officials learned a suspect had crashed his vehicle and was running toward the school.

The Gove County Sheriff says the 31-year-old had tried several school doors before finding a kitchen door propped open for a delivery. Authorities arrested him a short distance away after he started running south on Kansas Highway 23.

Officials say the man likely will be charged with fleeing and eluding. He’s also expected to face a trespassing charge for entering the school.

A trooper tried to pull over the Kansas City, Missouri, man for a traffic violation. Instead, authorities say the man drove off, reaching 135 mph during the pursuit.
