NEW YORK (AP) - New York City police say a 27-year-old Brooklyn was shot by police during a domestic incident.

Police say they had to forcibly enter a Manhattan apartment around 11:30 p.m. Monday while answering a call about a family dispute.

They found the man with a knife to the woman’s neck. They used a stun gun when he started to stab her. It had no effect.

An officer fired five rounds, striking the man in the torso.

The suspect, identified as Brian Quattrocchi, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition and arrested on attempted murder and weapons possession charges. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.

The victim also was taken to the hospital. She was in stable condition.
