LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Artists looking for inspiration in the great outdoors can apply to spend some quality time at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.
The artist-in-residence program at the park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is taking applications for the coming year. Writers, composers, and visual and performing artists are eligible.
Those selected can spend at least two weeks at the park, staying in a rustic cabin on the Little Union River and exploring the backcountry.
The park features miles of Lake Superior shoreline, four inland lakes, entire river systems, waterfalls, wooded peaks and a virgin forest of eastern hemlock and northern hardwoods.
Participants are asked to share their experiences with the public through demonstrations or talks and to contribute an art piece to the Friends of the Porkies’ permanent collection.
