JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The search has been called off for a 22-year-old kayaker who went missing off Jacksonville Beach.

University of North Florida student Garth Sangree told people he planned to go on a kayak trip alone on Saturday near the Jacksonville Beach pier. Rescue crews ended their search on Tuesday.

The Florida Times-Union (https://bit.ly/1zX2Wl3 ) reports the search led by the U.S. Coast Guard covered more than 4,435 square miles and included several agencies.

The search started Sunday afternoon. Sangree was likely on a lime green and white kayak.
