TAZEWELL, Va. (AP) - A Tazewell County school bus driver faces drunken driving and endangerment charges.

Police tell media outlets that no students were on the bus when 37-year-old Stephanie Lowe of Bluefield, Virginia, was arrested Monday afternoon. But students were on the bus earlier in the day.

Tazewell County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Turner says a breathalyzer test showed Lowe’s blood alcohol content was 0.21. The legal limit for commercial drivers is 0.04.

Lowe is charged with driving under the influence and reckless endangerment. She is being held without bond following an arraignment Tuesday on the endangerment charge. An arraignment on the DUI charge is expected later this week.

The Tazewell County school board and the sheriff’s office say in a joint statement that appropriate actions will be taken.
