NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Officials at Vermont’s Norwich University say they’re $62 million on their way to a $100 million fundraising goal.

The pledges the school has received were announced Monday at a ceremonial groundbreaking of renovation to the school’s Kreitzberg Library.

A percentage of the money raised so far is a $25 million matching grant from a Chicago foundation that will be added to more than $27 million raised as part of the challenge.

Norwich President Richard Schneider says he school also received a recent gift of $5 million for construction of a new academic building.

The fundraising campaign, announced last fall, is part of a five-year countdown to the university’s 2019 bicentennial.
