NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Newark Police have charged a driver they say was involved in four hit-and-run crashes in Maryland and Delaware with his 3rd DUI.

It happened about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on South Main Street. Officers say they saw a car with no headlights speeding and pulled the vehicle over in a traffic stop.

Authorities say the driver, 30-year-old Eric Zimmer of Elkton, Maryland, was arrested after a brief struggle. Police say an investigation showed Zimmer had been involved in three crashes in Maryland and one in Delaware just before Newark officers stopped him. Officers said Zimmer had pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in July 2009 and February 2012 in Maryland.

Zimmer was charged with 3rd offense DUI, resisting arrest and 13 traffic offenses.
