BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - The Billings area received a record 5 inches of snow early Saturday.

Todd Chambers is meteorologist with the weather service in Billings. He says the amount of snow that Billings received from midnight through mid-afternoon Saturday broke the previous record of just over 3 inches set in 1997.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/179X7EE ) that more moisture and cold temperatures are on the way and that the area could receive up to a foot of new snow by Wednesday.

Chambers said temperatures could rise above freezing on Monday but that more arctic air will move in by Tuesday, sending temperatures back to the single digits.

The Montana Highway Patrol reported 14 slide-offs and minor-injury crashes from 11:30 a.m. through 2 p.m. Saturday.
