BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Mercedes Jefflo scored a career-high 17 points and Brittany Boyd added 16 more while also hauling in 10 rebounds to lead California to a 67-49 win over Utah in the Pac 12 opener for both teams Saturday.

Penina Davidson contributed a career-high 15 points and Reshanda Gray had nine points and eight rebounds for California (9-3, 1-0), which won its ninth-straight over Utah and extended its series lead to 12-4. It was Boyd’s second-consecutive double-double and fifth of the season.

Leading by eight at the break, California opened the second half with a 14-2 run to take control of the game and make it 40-22 with 14:26 to go. The Bears struggled on offense in the first half but shot 57 percent in the closing 20 minutes and held a 40-29 rebounding advantage overall.

Danielle Rodriguez led Utah (6-6, 0-1) with 13 points.
