CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Crews will close two lanes of eastbound Interstate 26 near downtown Charleston for repairs to a bridge.

The Department of Transportation says the lane closings are set to begin at 9 p.m. Friday on the bridge that carries I-26 over Baker Hospital Road near mile marker 217. They could last through Sunday evening.

The DOT says steel plates have already been placed on the bridge to temporarily fix the problem. Crews will reinforce the bridge and pour new concrete.

Officials say bad weather could delay the work.

The DOT says it needs to close part of the bridge for two more weekends for repairs, but those dates have not been scheduled.

Similar work has been done recently on bridges on Interstate 95 and Interstate 77.
