CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Students at Clemson Elementary School are getting an up-close civics lesson.

The federal Citizenship and Immigration Services is holding a naturalization ceremony for 26 people at the school on Friday. Those being naturalized represent 16 nations ranging from China and Vietnam to the Ukraine and India.

Students at the school have been studying immigration this school year.

The students are participating by carrying the flag, leading the pledge of allegiance and singing patriotic songs. They also have a chance to meet and speak with the nation’s newest citizens.
