HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a man walked into a Marshall County bank, claimed he had a bomb and a gun, and demanded money from the tellers.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/163J1V7 ) sheriff’s deputies apprehended him a short time later.

Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says 35-year-old Joseph Hammer, of Byhalia, has been charged with attempted bank robbery.

Dickerson says the tellers exited the building Thursday afternoon and left him alone in the front lobby.

He says Hammer was still in the lobby minutes later when deputies arrived.

It was unclear whether Hammer has an attorney.
