ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) - A little bit of the Old West survives in the Ellensburg area where a longtime Kittitas Valley ranching family holds a cattle drive each year in late January.

The Eaton family and friends are planning this year’s drive on Saturday on the Yakima River Canyon Highway. Pregnant cows that have been grazing in the Selah Butte area are moved to the Mount Baldy Ranch to have calves.

The Daily Record reports (https://bit.ly/15PMFRN ) family members and friends on horseback drive the cattle. A lot of people come out to watch what looks a little like a rodeo parade.

The Transportation Department sends trucks with warning signs and flashing lights on each side of the herd to alert drivers.
