NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) - A Coast Guard helicopter crew has helped rescue an injured 50-year-old man from the South Jetty in Yaquina Bay on the Oregon coast.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Amanda Norcross says the helicopter crew from the agency’s Newport facility hoisted the man from the jetty Thursday and took him to an ambulance waiting in a nearby parking lot. He reportedly had fallen and suffered a spinal injury.

He was then taken to a Newport hospital. The man was not identified.
