NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Another lawsuit has been filed stemming from last week’s massive fire at an upscale apartment building along the Hudson River.

Alessandro DeMarco and Amanda Bayer filed the suit in federal court in Newark on Thursday.

They allege apartment building owner AvalonBay Communities was negligent and caused them to lose all the personal belongings they had stored in the building. The suit seeks class action status and seeks damages for lost property and other expenses including clothing, housing, moving expenses and transportation.

The Jan. 21 blaze was started by workers doing plumbing repairs using a blowtorch. About 500 people’s apartments were destroyed and about 500 more residents were displaced.

Two similar lawsuits were filed in state court this week. The company has declined to comment on the lawsuits.
