EDISON, N.J. (AP) - Edison officials are asking for help from other towns after a four-alarm blaze destroyed a municipal garage, including a fleet of salt spreaders.

The fire that began 10 p.m. Thursday at the Edison Township Department of Public Works garage came ahead of a winter storm that’s forecast to drop up to six inches of snow on Edison Sunday night.

The township says 11 salt spreaders that had attached snow plows were destroyed. NJ.com reports that Woodbridge Township is letting Edison borrow some of its equipment.

The building collapsed as the fire consumed fuel tanks, vehicles and tires.

No one was inside the building and firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby homes.

No one was injured.
