LOXLEY, Ala. (AP) - Police officers from across Alabama turned out to say farewell to a fellow officer from the Gulf coast who died after a car crash.

WKRG-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1zcbYt5 ) hundreds of police officers attended the funeral of Loxley police Sgt. Kerry Mitchum. The service Thursday was followed by a long procession to the Stapleton Community Cemetery.

Alabama state troopers say a medical emergency caused 57-year-old Mitchum to lose control of his patrol car Monday when it crashed into a tree. The officer was airlifted to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile where he later died.
