GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - The Greenwood School Board has voted to extend the contract of Superintendent Montrell Greene for an additional year.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (https://bit.ly/1wE7x4m ) Greene’s contract will now run through the 20172018 school year.

The 40-year-old Greene was hired in April 2013 on a three-year contract with the Greenwood School District, earning $146,000 a year. The financial compensation and other terms of the contract remain the same.

School Board President Bill Clay praised Greene’s leadership of the district despite what he described as numerous obstacles thrown in his path including some community opposition to his hiring and critical report from the Mississippi Department of Education.
