DERUYTER, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who took his ex-girlfriend hostage before he was found dead inside a central New York home at the end of an armed standoff with police.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office tells local media that 26-year-old Erie Duncan of DeRuyter was found dead around 9:30 a.m. Thursday in an unoccupied house in his rural hometown, located 15 miles southeast of Syracuse.

Police say he had abducted his ex-girlfriend around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday from a home in the neighboring Cortland County town of Cuyler. Officers tracked them down at the house in DeRuyter and set up a perimeter.

The woman managed to flee the house around 4 a.m. Thursday. A SWAT teams entered the home hours later and found Duncan’s body.

The cause of death hasn’t been determined.
