LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - One of two people accused in the 2013 beating death of a Las Cruces man has been sentenced.

Prosecutors say 28-year-old Leonard Espinosa Telles was given a 39-year prison term on Friday.

They say Telles was convicted of second-degree murder, kidnapping and tampering with evidence in the November 2013 death of 37-year-old Jerome Saiz.

Las Cruces police found Saiz with multiple injuries to his face and head with his body wrapped in a roll of carpet in his home.

Investigators believe Saiz was hit with a baseball bat multiple times during an argument with Telles over Saiz’s girlfriend, Rebecca Gomez.

Gomez is scheduled to go on trial April 13 in the case. Prosecutors say she is accused of first-degree murder, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
