LOS ANGELES (AP) - A man who smashed the windows of a Los Angeles police car on Hollywood Boulevard as Superman and dozens of tourists watched is going to jail.

City News Service says 28-year-old Leyston Rice pleaded no contest Thursday to felony vandalism and was sentenced to a year in county jail. He’ll also take anger management classes and pay nearly $5,000 to reimburse the city.

Prosecutors say in February of last year, Rice used a metal stake to smash the windows of a patrol car parked next to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, grabbed a laptop computer and began pushing its buttons before nearby officers arrested him.

The incident was witnessed by costumed performers dressed as Superman and Darth Vader and caught on video by tourists and a news crew.
