PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Gina Raimondo has chosen an expert in regulatory policy from Brown University to lead the state’s Office of Regulatory Reform.

Raimondo announced Friday that Erik Godwin will be the office’s director.

Godwin leads the Applied Social, Economic and Regulatory Analysis Group at the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown. He consults for federal agencies on regulatory policy, budgetary systems and other topics.

He previously worked in Washington, D.C. as a regulatory analyst for energy policies and as a lobbyist.

Raimondo says Godwin has the experience to streamline the state’s regulatory processes and make Rhode Island more business-friendly.

Godwin says there’s a balance to strike between the regulatory system and the businesses and professions it serves.

The director’s position has been vacant for about a year.
