SALEM, Ore. (AP) - The Marion County, Oregon, district attorney’s office says a male teenager has been arraigned on charges of manslaughter, assault and fleeing a police officer after a fatal crash ended a police chase in the Mount Angel area.

Authorities allege the 17-year-old was driving a pickup truck that crashed Monday night west of Mount Angel, killing 35-year-old Rhiannon Steele of Keizer, who was a passenger in the back seat. A juvenile male passenger was taken to a Salem-area hospital with serious injuries.

Prosecutors said Friday that the 17-year-old will be prosecuted as an adult. His next court appearance is set for Feb. 12.

Mount Angel police tried to pull over the pickup but the driver raced off. State police say he fled the crash scene but was later found and taken into custody.
