ALIQUIPPA, Pa. (AP) - A police officer fatally shot a pit bull after it attacked a man and his son at their suburban Pittsburgh home.

Police dispatchers say the Independence Township officer shot the dog around 7:35 p.m. Thursday.

The father and son were taken to Pittsburgh-area hospitals with unspecified injuries.

Officials didn’t release the victims’ names.

Independence Township is about 20 miles northwest of downtown Pittsburgh.
