WELCH, W.Va. (AP) - A McDowell County man has pleaded guilty in the 1981 fatal shooting of his father.

Media outlets report 54-year-old David Miller of Premier entered the plea Friday to voluntary manslaughter in McDowell County Circuit Court. His trial on a second-degree murder charge had been scheduled to start Monday.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 26.

Prosecutors say Miller’s father, Hobert Melvin Miller, died of a single shotgun wound in December 1981.

David Miller was sentenced in November to up to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing another relative in the 1980s.

Prosecutors say the investigation into Hobert Miller’s death was reopened after the victim in the sex crimes case came forward to say she witnessed the shooting.
