BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Actor, director and science advocate Alan Alda will be speaking at the University of Vermont next week.

The TV and film star best known for his role in the 1970s sitcom “M.A.S.H.” will give a lecture entitled “Helping the Public Get Beyond a Blind Date with Science.”

The event, on Monday at 4 p.m., is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, however.

Alda hosted PBS’ Scientific American Frontiers from 1993 to 2005 and helped found the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University on Long Island.
