SAN DIEGO (AP) - Two drug-addicted former San Diego police officers have been sentenced to three years apiece in prison for illegally selling prescription painkillers - sometimes while on duty.

U-T San Diego (https://bit.ly/1zoQ5p4 ) says the married couple of Bryce and Jennifer Charpentier were sentenced Friday. Each will have to serve at least 1 ½ years.

The Charpentiers pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to sell hydrocodone and to commit burglary. They also acknowledged being addicts in possession of a firearm.

Jennifer Charpentier worked 18 years for the Police Department and her husband for six years.

Their attorneys argued the two were honorable officers before drugs took over their lives and asked for drug treatment rather than prison. The judge instead chose the shortest prison term available under the law.
