MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Mason City man who pleaded guilty to hiding bullets in his underwear while in jail has been sentenced to probation.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1CXIqRd ) that 28-year-old Lover Montgomery was sentenced earlier this month to three years of probation and a suspended five-year prison sentence.

He had pleaded guilty to a felony count of possession of contraband.

A jailer said he found three .380-caliber bullets in Montgomery’s underwear when booking him into the Cerro Gordo County Jail for an assault charge on Aug. 6.

The assault charge was dismissed in exchange for his guilty plea, but Montgomery currently faces burglary charges for an unrelated case.
