BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - A 28-year-old man suspected of attacking his girlfriend and abducting their 3-month-old daughter has been taken into custody.

City News Service reports that Ellsworth Jerome Young was found by Bakersfield Police Department at 2:30 a.m. Saturday in Bakersfield about an hour-and-a-half north of the alleged abduction in Palmdale.

Authorities said the child was fine.

Young allegedly punched his girlfriend, giving her a black eye, before he drove off Friday morning with their daughter.

Sheriff’s Lt. Adam Ellison says the girlfriend left their daughter in the car when she ran into a check cashing business at 11:40 a.m. Friday and that Young then fled with the child.

Ellison says the girlfriend told authorities Young has a black semi-automatic pistol and repeatedly forced her to commit sex acts.
