LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana County authorities say a woman found passed out next to her vehicle with her infant daughter sleeping inside has been arrested.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday that 24-year-old Rokki Howard is out on bond following charges of child abuse and resisting arrest.

Authorities say two teenage boys were riding off-road vehicles Thursday in a remote desert area northeast of Las Cruces when they noticed Howard.

The teens told deputies the car windows were down with loud music playing. They say the girl was asleep in a car seat but with a soiled diaper that had seeped through her clothes.

Investigators say Howard appeared intoxicated. She admitted to drinking and driving in the village of Dona Ana.

It is not known if she has an attorney.
