PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a teenager allegedly injured a Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputy after he arrested him for shoplifting.

KPHO-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1vNpAVo) that Phoenix police say the off-duty deputy handcuffed the 18-year-old for trying to take several bottles of liquor at a Fry’s supermarket.

According to the police report, the teenage suspect threw a bottle at the deputy during the arrest.

Once in handcuffs, the suspect allegedly threw his head back to strike the deputy in the face.

Police say the deputy was treated at a hospital as a precaution.

The suspect faces charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and shoplifting.
