CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Police say a Cranston officer shot at a drug suspect’s car after he was almost run over.

Police Chief Michael Winquist said Sunday the gunshots broke windows in the car but didn’t hit the driver, 36-year-old Alicia Mattera of Central Falls. She and the officer were treated for minor injuries.

Winquist said the officer approached Mattera’s car Saturday in a restaurant parking lot after seeing a suspected drug deal and found her holding a plastic bag believed to contain cocaine. He said she reversed her car when the officer reached inside, striking his cruiser and another car as she drove away.

Mattera was arrested nearby. Police said they found crack cocaine in the parking lot and marijuana in her possession.

Mattera is held on charges including assault and drug possession. It’s not known if she has a lawyer.
