DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (AP) - A Denham Springs police officer is being remembered for his kindness and dedication.

James Foster Jr. was killed last Monday in a crash while heading to an Interstate 12 accident.

The motorcycle officer crashed into a Honda sedan that had turned into his path.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1AnM701 ) that, at Saturday’s funeral, one colleague remembered him for handing a $100 bill to the family of a man he had arrested for minor traffic warrants to help them fail him out of jail. They also remembered him as someone with a curiosity about languages. After he learned Spanish, Foster was sometimes awakened by late-night calls from co-workers who needed help with translations.

Saturday’s funeral included a farewell procession of dozens of police cars and motorcycles.

James Foster Jr., was 39.
