HONOLULU (AP) - Kauai authorities say a pedestrian has died after apparently being struck by a police car driven by an officer responding to a pedestrian crash.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://is.gd/14ItFN) reports the man was first struck by an eastbound vehicle Saturday night on Kaumualii Highway near the Kaumakani Post Office.

Police say the man was apparently struck again by the vehicle of the police officer who was responding to the scene.

Officials say the pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he died. The man’s name was not immediately released.

Police say the officer has been placed on administrative leave during an investigation, as dictated by department protocol.
