CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - More than 800 West Virginia teachers are now certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

The state Department of Education says 69 teachers received National Board Certification for the 2014-2015 academic year. That brings the state’s total to 825 teachers with the national certification.

Wood County leads the state with 92 National Board Certified teachers, followed by Berkeley County with 72 and Cabell County with 61.

The National Board Certification is a voluntary assessment program.
