WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - An expert in digital content has been named executive editor and vice president/news at The Journal News in New York City’s northern suburbs.

Janet Hasson, president and publisher of The Journal News Media Group, a Gannett company, announced Monday that Traci Bauer is succeeding CynDee Royle.

Royle is undergoing cancer treatment and is on medical leave.

The 45-year-old Bauer has been with Gannett for 20 years, most recently as senior director of digital content solutions for the U.S. Community Publishing Division. She has also been managing editor of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.

Hasson said Bauer has helped make Gannett a leader in digital content strategy. Bauer said she wants The Journal News and its website, lohud.com, to be “essential” to the community.
