DENVER (AP) - The family of an off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department sergeant killed while helping a family involved in a crash on a snowy road says he was a man of strong faith who served God through his work in law enforcement.

Authorities say that Sgt. Sean Renfro helped a man, woman and a 1-year-old involved in Saturday’s crash on U.S. 285 near Conifer by putting them into his warm truck. He was then struck and killed while directing traffic after another car lost control and crossed the highway, striking Renfro and another man, who was taken to the hospital.

The 15-year department veteran leaves behind a wife and four children. In a statement, his family says he never missed any of children’s concerts or football games and was a devoted husband.
