DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A former Philadelphia sportscaster rejected a last-minute plea deal and plans to defend himself against theft charges involving fake travel packages.

Jury selection began Monday after Don Tollefson declined prosecutors’ offer in Bucks County. He said before entering court that he’s looking forward to telling his side of the story.

Tollefson was arrested in February after allegedly defrauding more than 200 people who bought his packages to the Super Bowl or other sporting events.

The purchases were supposed to help various charities. But authorities say the trips never materialized, resulting in losses of $300,000.

Tollefson pleaded guilty in September but withdrew his plea last month. Details of prosecutors’ plea offer Monday were not immediately clear.

The 62-year-old previously worked for many years at the ABC and Fox affiliates in Philadelphia.
