CARPENTER, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol says a Jackson man died when his pickup truck hit a tree and caught fire.

Trooper Eric Henry identifies the driver as 32-year-old Gregory Neal, of Jackson, but Copiah County Coroner Ellis Stuart won’t confirm that.

Stuart tells The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/1wOCLpn ) that DNA will have to be checked to confirm the driver’s identity.

Henry says the truck was eastbound on Highway 18 just south of Carpenter when the pickup truck ran off the road late Saturday or early Sunday.

He says the truck was ablaze when firefighters arrived, and they did not realize anyone was inside until the fire was out.

Stuart says the state crime lab will do an autopsy Monday.
