EL PASO, Texas (AP) - The city of El Paso is collecting food donations as a way to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his efforts.

The El Paso Times (https://bit.ly/1F86rYZ ) reports the 15th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Canned Food Drive will start Monday. It will last through Jan. 19, which is the federal holiday commemorating King’s birthday.

Donations can be dropped off at various locations in El Paso and will be used to stock pantries of organizations that serve the needy. An El Paso Public Library official says the food drive is a way to give back to the community, as King advocated.

The El Paso Public Library system also will conduct its Food for Fines program for the third year. Libraries will reduce fines for $1 per donated food item.
