PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gas prices just keep falling, and in Rhode Island they are down to $2.40 per gallon on average.

AAA Northeast says its weekly survey released Monday finds the price of a gallon of regular down 12 cents in the past week.

That’s the lowest price in Rhode Island since May 2009.

A year ago at this time, the price of gas was $1.13 or 47 percent more. In the past month alone, prices have fallen 46 cents per gallon.

AAA says it expects the downward trend to continue in the short term.

Gas in Rhode Island is still 20 cents more per gallon than the average price nationally of $2.20 per gallon.
