LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A Lansing church is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its formal founding.

Members of the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church commemorated the church’s 100th anniversary with a combined breakfast and service Sunday morning. The Lansing State Journal (https://on.lsj.com/1AvMkQ8 ) reports the service reflected on past and present church members, some of whom have belonged for several decades.

The Rev. Rob Cook says the anniversary is a good time to reflect on the past and look toward the future.

The church was founded with a land purchase in 1914 using a $1,353 gift from the estate of Elizabeth Cole Reasoner. The present building was constructed three years later and large additions were made in 1929, the 1950s and the 1980s.

The church currently has about 250 members.
