SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A Syracuse man is in a central New York jail after police say he led them on a 17-mile chase following a robbery at a local mall.

Police tell local media that 53-year-old Lonny Spivey stolen several coats from a retail store at Destiny USA around 7 p.m. Saturday and fled the scene.

Officers later spotted him driving near his Syracuse home around 3:30 a.m. Sunday and attempted to stop him. Spivey speed off, leading police on a chase into neighboring Madison County.

The chase ended in Lakeport on Oneida Lake when state police placed tire deflation devices in the road.

The charges against Spivey include robbery, grand larceny and fleeing from police.

He’s being held at Onondaga County Justice Center on $175,000 bail. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
