ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - An Alexandria man is facing a negligent homicide charge after what police are calling an accidental shooting on Sunday.

The Town Talk reports (https://townta.lk/1Apsuoh ) 29-year-old Kendall Smith was booked after Alexandria police were sent to a house and found the victim, an unidentified 29-year-old man, shot. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Police, in a news release, say Smith was playing with a firearm and it discharged. It was not immediately known if Smith had an attorney.

Police Chief Loren Lampert urged residents to remember that firearms are neither toys nor entertainment and to treat them as if they are loaded.
