BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) - Battle Creek authorities say a 66-year-old man has been found dead, two days after his smoking in bed started a fire that killed his 87-year-old mother.

Authorities haven’t announced the cause of his death.

The Battle Creek Enquirer (https://bcene.ws/1wQPsjp ) says fire Lt. Quincy Jones on Monday reported investigators’ findings from Thursday’s fire.

Jones says authorities received a call about 5:15 a.m. for a fire at a house that Leon Taylor shared with his mother, Bernice Taylor.

Bernice Taylor died at the scene, while Leon Taylor was treated for burns at Bronson Battle Creek hospital and released. He died Saturday, and Jones says an autopsy is incomplete.

Jones says that two other people escaped the house without injury.
