SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - Sumter County authorities say a man was struck and dragged by a truck during an altercation between two families at a convenience store.

Local media outlets report Sumter County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Braden Bunch said the fight started at a nearby grocery store on Sunday, then escalated after a woman from one of the families was followed and assaulted outside of the convenience store.

Bunch said a man apparently trying to help the woman was hit by the truck and dragged 30 yards.

Officials say 20-year-old Joseph Lloyd Henderson Jr. is charged with attempted murder, and his father, 43-year-old Joseph Lloyd Henderson is charged with simple assault. The two are being held at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center while they await a bond hearing. It’s not known if they have attorneys.
