ST. JOHN, Mo. (AP) - Authorities in St. Louis County say a 7 ½-hour standoff ended when a man fatally shot himself.

The standoff began about 9 p.m. Saturday in St. John. Two women told police that the homeowner had threatened them with a gun. The St. Louis County tactical operations unite responded and heard gunshots when they arrived.

Police went in about 4:30 a.m. Sunday and found the man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot. His name has not been released.

No one else was hurt.
